Pit Bull Rescue Dog

help the hounds of Hurricane Harvey.

As someone who has lived in a landlocked city for her entire life, I cannot imagine experiencing a hurricane and all its lasting effects. I was planning on writing a post about my collaboration with Luxury Garage Sale, but it was hard to talk about designers and shopping while people and their pets are trying to piece their lives together. So today, I wanted to talk today about how you can help the animals affected by Hurricane Harvey, don’t worry the designers will be here next week.

There are many places to donate to but I’ve partnered with my friend and fellow blogger Lephan of MacaronsAndLavender to put together a fundraiser for Houston Pets Alive. We chose this one because it was directly affected and could really use the support. To donate, simply click here.

While it might be motivation enough to help save lives, once you donate, you’re automatically entered into a raffle. Two of my favorite local companies have generously donated gift cards which we will be randomly giving out to two people. All you need to do for a chance to win is donate at least $5 and for every $5 you donate, you received one entry. Donate between today and next Friday and you’ll be on your way to winning one of two prizes.

Sararose, my absolute favorite (and completely cruelty-free) boutique has given us a $50 gift card and if you’ve been following my blog, you know they have the absolute cutest and sustainable clothing.

Oh, and if saving money on everything is more your style, Raise has also donated $50 to spend on any gift card. So basically, that’s $50 to whatever store/restaurant/bar you want because Raise has a discounted gift card for everything. (Psst: if you haven’t already, you can get $20 any gift card using this link and code CHRISTINE20).

So, I don’t think I need to convince you any more to donate because really, prizes aside, your money will go a long way in aiding dogs and cats impacted by Harvey. The effects and devastation are only just beginning and there is so much work to be done. The displaced animals need shelter, food and veterinary care. The organizations working to help these animals are stretched thin and appreciated every dollar sent their way.

If you would like to donate to an organization other than Houston Pets Alive, simply donate and send us your receipt and we will enter you into the raffle. If you’re trying to decide where to send your money, check out this blog post by my friend Melanie who compiled a list of organizations that could use donations.

I wanted to also draw attention to horses, livestock, and wildlife animals that don’t necessarily receive the same resources and support as pets do. To donate to help these types of animals, please donate to Habitat for Horses or the SPCA Wildlife Center of Texas. Your money will not go to waste at either of these organizations. Again, we will happily enter you into the raffle for any donation made between today and next Friday, simply email/message myself (Christine@TheRescueRunway.com) or Lephan (MacaronsAndLavender@Gmail.com).

One final way to help the dogs of Texas is to become a foster (or you know, adopt the cutie below). In order to clear room in the shelters for dogs and cats impacted by the Hurricane, shelters all around Texas are sending animals to rescues all over the country. This way, shelters can take in new animals and keep them safe until they can be reunited with their owners. It’s the most amazing strategy but in order to make it work, we need people to foster. The Anti-Cruelty Society will be getting dogs from Texas on Monday, please email LKrupinski@AntiCruelty.org to become a foster today.

Now, while the Hurricane is absolutely heartbreaking, I cannot help but see all the love and support we really do have for one another. If you’re like me, the world has been a sad and scary place lately, but seeing everyone pitch in and help their neighbors has truly restored my faith in humanity. I wanted to leave you with my favorite pictures and most heartwarming stories from the week.

THE RESCUES:

In hopes of making room over at the Anti-Cruelty Society, I’m sharing this sweet thing Majesty who is in search of her forever home. She is a happy and curious Pit Bull mix with so much love to give. She’s pretty lowkey and just wanted to be everyone’s best friend.

The second lady is Jade and she has already found her forever home! She definitely earned her spot and waited patiently until the perfect family found her, congrats Jade!

THE RUNWAY:

As I mentioned, I had the most amazing shoot with Luxury Garage Sale. They kindly lent me the most fabulous clothing and I love all their pieces. I’m excited to talk more about the collaboration next week, but below is the most amazing white jacket by Ellery that I want in my closet asap, sadly it’s sold out but I’m going to be keeping an eye out for something just like it. I kept it rocker casual (is that a thing??) with ripped jeans, graphic tee and my vans. I sort of felt like super boss. The second outfit is this Stella McCartney dress that I wore with my go-to Vince Camuto booties. I love Stella McCartney and her commitment to Cruelty-Free. Shop the pieces above and the looks below!
