Happy Friday friends! It’s finally the end of the week after what felt like the longest week ever. This weekend is the Air & Water show in Chicago so if you have pups afraid of noise, be sure to check out these helpful tips. This weekend is also Clear the Shelters and I’m hoping hundreds of dogs and cats find their forever homes.
Clear the Shelters is an annual event sponsored by NBC and Telemundo. The day is marked by free adoptions at more than 900 shelters across the US in an effort to reduce the number of animals in their care. Below is a list of all the Chicagoland organizations participating in Clear the Shelters.
Before you get up in arms about how and why a shelter would “give away” pets for free, let me first say it’s proven that these events work. Free adoptions increase the number of adoptions and have no determination in the quality of care the pet receives. Furthermore, another study showed that cats adopted with no fee were equally as loved as those who had an adoption fee.
So, now that we’ve put your fears to bed, here are all the places in Chicago where you can find your next furry BFF.
Chicago Animal Care and Control
DuPage County Animal Care & Control
Humane Society of Northwest Indiana
Naperville Area Humane Society
North Aurora Adoption Center – Anderson Animal Shelter
Winnebago County Animal Services
Now go out there and find your new BFF! I’ll be here patiently waiting to see pictures of your puppy/kitty/bird.
xoxo,
Christine
