The dainty, lace bandana for the biggest, beefiest dog. Meet Atkins, the friendliest giant I’ve met in a while. He’s massive, like his paws are about as big as my head (and I’ve got a big noggin) Atkins lives with kids and other dogs in his foster home and gets along with them famously. He loves car rides, doesn’t mind the chaos of city noise, and is the perfect combo of independent and cuddly. Atkins is available for adoption through @darkhorsedogs and he even comes with the bandana.

I honestly couldn’t pick my top 3 favorite photos from this shoot with Bonnie from @darkhorsedogs so I’m giving you my top 10 but even then there are 10 others I could share (shoutout to @adventuresatos for her amazing photog skills!). All the photos are amazing and we all know it’s because Bonnie, her ears and stunning coat of course!!

She’s a tiny (by my dog standards) thing at only 45 lbs and loves everyone. She gets along with dogs and enjoys the company of cats too. She’s enjoys training because it means she can have food, and that is a great quality in any dog. Bonnie can live in the city or burbs and after a few good walks, will just want to be in your lap. I don’t like using the term perfect with animals, but she checks all the damn boxes. Available for adoption through @darkhorsedogs!

My first job in animal rescue was an adoption coun

My first job in animal rescue was an adoption counselor for @secondcityk9. I applied for the job because it was COVID and we all questioned everything during COVID. I decided I wanted to pursue a career in animal rescue and I loved it. My favorite part was helping the blocky-headed underdogs find their adoptive homes. I loved that role and learned so much.

When @secondcityk9 reached out to me asking if I could spotlight their longtime dog Capone, I was more than happy to help. Capone has been looking for his forever home for a little over 9 months now. He’s just a hard dog to adopt and with so many dogs needing homes, he gets consistently looked over. It’s really such a shame because this boy loves people, especially his people. He couldn’t wait to be petted and cooed over, giving wiggle booty immediately. Capone might need to be the only dog in the home, but man his love will be plenty for the luckiest adopters!

If cats, dogs, and travel are romance, than we are the New Romantics indeed. Happy birthday to my husband, the person who makes this world a better place. I’m am in awe of your determination, big heart, and devotion to improving the lives of young athletes. Thanks for always agreeing that we need to help more animals, even when I pull them off the street and place them in our car. We are all so lucky to have you.

Happy Halloween from adoptable Lechito, the cutest little dinosaur I ever did see!! This guys does tricks for treats, is about 3 years old, and lives with another dog. He loves people and does great with children. Lechito has medium/high energy and currently lives in Chicago.

He’s been waiting for more than a year for his adoptive family, let’s make it happen before the holiday season!!

My therapist and I often talk about compassion fat

My therapist and I often talk about compassion fatigue and ways to combat it. One of the biggest tools we came up with was making sure to celebrate the wins and reflecting on the emotions that come them. This usually means I take time to sit in the joy of placing an animal into a home because it’s my favorite part about what I do. So here’s a little joy for you too.

I met Brock and Misty at @chianimalcareandcontrol in August and immediately knew they were @thecatcade cats. Yesterday, those small CACC kittens are now in a forever home where they’re already so loved and spoiled. Thank you to The Cade for letting me snag these two and thank you @therealchunkdaddy for fostering them (and giving them much needed baths!!). Congrats Brock and Misty (soon to be joined by Beijing!) on your forever.
